What I use for photoshoots

January 03, 2015

I use Canon camera body. Why? Because it’s what I’ve been using ever since I got serious in photography.

Canon 5dmk3 is my primary body and 5dmk2 is my back up.

Umbrella diffusers

Now, I will not bring all of my gear to an event, wedding and certainly not to a rock concert!

Because, it simply not practical.

For a family Photosession:

I always bring my canon 24 – 70mm and at least 1 x speedlite with diffuser either plastic that covers the speedlite or umbrella.

For an event:

Now, this depends on how big the event is. If it’s small kid’s birthday party, my canon 24-70mm can handle it really well.

However, if it’s a corporate event I would also bring my canon 70-200mm. To take the longer shots.

And speedlite attach to my camera.

For a rockshow:

I always rely on my canon 24-70mm and canon 70-200mm lenses for this. I also bring 1 x speedlite just in case I need it. I rarely use it though.

For a Wedding:

I bring my canon 24-70mm, canon 70-200mm, canon 17-40mm, canon 15mm fish eye lens and Sigma 35mm ART lens.

You just have to be prepared and not to miss any moments during the wedding by bringing all these lenses.

Canon 24-70mm (semi tele zoom) is great for portrait and candid that are not too far from subject shots.

Canon 70-200mm (tele zoom). This is awesome for long distance shots.

Canon 17-40mm (wide angle). I only use this for bride & groom location photoshoots. This lens requires extra lighting or use this in a bright day light.

Canon 15mm (fish eye lens). This lens is superior to capture dancing scenes at reception.

Canon 35mm (semi wide angle). This is my backup lens.

For  a small event, portrait session and rock events. I put all my gear into Lowepro toploading-sling bag. Or if I’m packing more lenses and speedlites I simply put them nicely into my Thinktank Retrospective 10.

For a big wedding I put my gear into my Thinktank  Airport Takeoff.

Hope that helps new photographer who wants to know what I use for photosession.

Have a great day!
